EXCLUSIVE: Alex Gilpin vs. JR Coughran slated for Contender Series on August 7th
August 7th marks the last episode of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series before the series switches to the Brazilian portion. MMA Today has already uncovered three of the series’ fights, but now a fourth one has surfaced.
Sources confirmed to MMA Today Monday evening that JR Coughran (6-0) will take on Alex Gilpin (11-1) in a featherweight bout. This fight will take place in the TUF Gym in Las Vagas, Nevada.
Fighting out of Madison, Wisconsin and training out of the Chosen Few Gym, Alex Gilpin holds a professional record of 11-1. The 26-year-old is on a six-fight win streak with five of them coming by the way of finish.
Gilpin was last seen fighting for Absolute Championship Berkut (ACB) when he defeated a tough undefeated Russian prospect, Adlan Mamaev by submission in the third round. Gilpin has also fought for Finnish promotion Cage MMA and former AXS TV promotion RFA. He is also a regional defending champion for the Chosen Few FC promotion out of Wisconsin.
Standing across from Gilpin on August 7th will be fellow featherweight prospect, JR Coughran. The two featherweights will battle each other in front of matchmakers Mick Maynard and Sean Shelby, as well as UFC president Dana White.
Coughran who is fighting out of Choctaw, Oklahoma trains out of The Forge MMA. At only 24-years-old, Coughran holds an undefeated record of 6-0
Coughran has fought for top Michigan promotion, Knockout Promotions (KOP) and the very well known Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA). He is also coming off an injury earlier this year after a broken neck sidelined him for some time.
