Bantamweights Luke Sanders and Felipe Arantes Set to Tango at UFC Pittsburgh
September’s UFC Pittsburgh card is starting to really shape up, as the event featuring Luke Rockhold vs. Dave Branch now has 9 fights confirmed.
Per Craig Meyer at Post-Gazzete, bantamweights Luke Sanders and Felipe Arantes will meet inside the cage on September 16th. The contest is slated for the preliminary portion of this Fight Night card.
Luke Sanders (11-1) is coming off a loss at UFC 209 which snapped his career-starting 11 fight winning streak. In that fight, Sanders was dominating Iuri Alcantara and nearly finished him off a couple of times before falling to a crafty kneebar. Prior to that loss, “Cool Hand Luke” grabbed a rear naked choke submission over Octagon veteran Maximo Blanco in his UFC debut back at the start of the year. Now standing at 1-1 in UFC competition, this is a huge fight for the promising former RFA champion as he seeks to build a long career inside the world’s biggest fight promotion.
Felipe Arantes (18-8-1) is also coming into this one hoping to get back to his winning ways. Prior to a split decision loss to Erik Perez last November, “Sertanejo” had scored back to back armbar wins over veterans Jerrod Sanders and Yves Jabouin. The Brazilian holds a record of 5-4-1 in the UFC and is also looking to solidify his roster spot with an impressive victory.
