Belém’s Own Michel Prazeres Gets Hometown Bout Against Des Green

The UFC’s debut in the Brazil’s northern region of Pará has added a showdown between two talented lightweights. Currently riding a five-fight winning streak, Belém’s own Michel Prazeres (23-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) will square off with American Des Green (20-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 125 (UFC Belém)Biel Carvalho of @mmabrasil first reported the matchup. There’s no indication at this time where the bout will be placed on the card.  UFC Belém is set for February 3, 2018 at the Arena Guilherme Paraense.

Prazeres, 36, has quietly emerged as one of the top lightweights outside the rankings.  Since an early 2015 loss to recent title-challenger, Kevin Lee, “Trator” (English translation to “Tractor”) is riding a five-fight winning-streak with submission finishes in his last two outings. His impressive UFC run thus far includes wins over Mairbek Taisumov, Gilbert Burns, and Josh Burkman.  With a win in Belém, Prazeres could very well be setting himself up for ranked-opposition next.  The Brazilian has most recently been training up in the northeast with coaches Mark Henry and Ricardo Almeida alongside UFC contenders Edson Barboza and Frankie Edgar.

For the second-straight fight, the 28-year-old Green will be heading overseas for his next UFC appearance.  The former Titan FC Featherweight Champion will be making his third UFC lightweight outing having split the first two.  In his octagon debut in his hometown of Buffalo, Green took a split-decision from the recently-impressive Josh Emmett at UFC 210.  Green was back in action this past September, but fell short in a unanimous-decision loss to surging Rustam Khabilov at UFC Rotterdam.  Green has been doing his fight camps at Hard Knocks 365 in South Florida under coach Henri Hooft and recently signed a four-fight extension with the UFC.

With this addition, the UFC Belém fight card now includes:

  • #14 Lyoto Machida vs. Eryk Anders – Main Event
  • Thiago Santos vs. Anthony Smith
  • #15 Timothy Johnson vs. Marcelo Golm
  • Maia Stevenson vs. Polyana Viana
  • Alan Patrick vs. Damir Hadzovic
  • #1 (BW) Valentina Shevchenko vs. Priscila Cachoeira
  • #14 Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Joseph Morales
  • Michel Prazeres vs. Des Green
