Bellator 207: Ryan Bader smothers Matt Mitrione in one-sided bout

The main event clash of Bellator 207 featured one half of the Bellator MMA Heavyweight Grand Prix semi-finals.

Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Ryan Bader looked to advance one step closer to earning “champ champ” status, against the always entertaining Matt Mitrione.

Right from the get-go, Bader made it no secret he wanted this fight on the ground. In the opening seconds, Bader shot for a takedown — which he secured.

From there, Bader unloaded all multiple variations of haymakers on his downed heavyweight foe. Hanging tough, Mitrione survived to see Round 2.

It was more of the same in the second, with Bader locking in a kimura midway through the round. Wincing in pain, Mitrione appeared like he was going to tap, but pulled up just millimeters from doing so.

The third round was more of the same, with Bader using his bread and butter to smother Mitrione.

RESULT: Ryan Bader (26-5) def. Matt Mitrione (13-6) by unanimous decision ()
