Bellator 208: Fedor Emelianenko stops Chael Sonnen inside one round

Saturday night, the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix semi-finals went out with a conclusive “bang.”

Russian heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko continued his never-ending streak of entertaining fights. In doing so, “The Last Emporer” pounded out Chael Sonnen in the first round.

The fight began with both men coming out hard. Emelianenko was able to land some big shots before Sonnen shot for the takedown. Unsuccessful a number of times, Sonnen finally got Emilanenko to the ground.

Getting Emelianenko’s back, Sonnen realized he was too high, and attempted to jump over his back. The move was a risky one, which didn’t pay off. Emlianenko was able to gain top control and land heavy strikes on Oregon’s own.

Moments later Sonnen was covering up, defenseless, leaving referee Dan Miragliotta with no option but to stop it.

RESULT: Fedor Emelianenko def. Chael Sonnen by TKO (punches) at 4:46 of Round 1
