Big Show MMA Veteran Results – December, 2017 – Part I

The month of December was busy for the sport of MMA.  Numerous former “Big Show” veterans have competed for smaller promotions or on a more regional-scale.  Let’s have a look at how they fared in the first of a two-part series covering the month:

December 1-3, 2017:

Salvaterra Marajó Fight 7 (Salvaterra, Para, Brazil) Flyweight Iliarde Santos (32-15-1 MMA, 0-3 UFC) was submitted in the first-round by prospect, Raulian Paiva (15-1 MMA).

Superior Challenge 16 (Stockholm, Sweden) A pair of UFC vets earned finishes. Diego Nunes (3-3 UFC, 0-2 Bellator, 5-1 WEC) submitted the local product Michael Ersoy (6-4 MMA) with a guillotine in the second round while David Bielkheden (1-2 UFC, 0-1 Pride) knocked out Anton Radman (14-9 MMA) in the first round.  Bielkheden, 38, has now won eight straight mostly competing in his home country of Sweden.

Summit FC 25 (Tupelo, MS, USA) Tyler Hill (7-1 MMA, 0-1 Bellator) def. Ryan Riley (5-2 MMA) for the Summit FC Welterweight Championship.

December 8-10, 2017:

XFN 6 (Prague, Czech Republic) Karlos Vemola (19-5 MMA, 2-4 UFC) def. Petr Ondrus (7-7 MMA) by SUB (1). Vemola competed in three different weight classes during his time in the UFC (HW, LHW, MW).

Fury FC 20 (San Antonio, TX, USA) Pete Spratt (3-4 UFC, 0-1 Strikeforce) returned to the cage for the first time in four years. Things didn’t go as planned as “The Secret Weapon” was finished with strikes in the second round by unknown Washington Luiz (4-3 MMA).

TUF 11‘s Jamie Yager (0-1 UFC, 0-1 Bellator, 1-0 WSOF) was rumored to be on the TUF: Redemption cast in 2017 but ultimately wasn’t chosen. Yager won his third straight fight, defeating Tyler Jackson (10-7-1 MMA) by decision (unanimous). DWTNCS’ Shelton Graves (8-3 MMA) earned a first-round TKO while Cortez Coleman (TUF 16, 3-3 Bellator) lost a decision to Christiano Froehlich (9-3 MMA).

Surprisingly enough, only one former UFC competitor was featured on the Invicta FC 26 card. Milana Dudieva (11-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) had a back-and-forth battle with Vanessa Porto. Porto landed a massive punch to the body that put Dudieva away mid-way through the third.
