Big Show MMA Veterans – February, 2018 Part I
The month of February is halfway over and plenty of “Big Show” veterans have competed for smaller promotions or on a more regional-scale. Let’s have a look at how they fared:
February 1-4, 2018:
Conquest of the Cage (Airway Heights, WA, USA) Austin Springer (TUF 22*, 1-0 Bellator) took out 48-year-old Troy Berglund (4-1 MMA) with a third-round TKO.

RFC: Way of the Dragon 01 (Taipei City, Taiwan) Rocky Lee (4-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) def. Yutaka Imamura (2-7 MMA) by SUB (1). This was Lee’s first win since 2013.
Victory FC: Junction City (Junction City, KS, USA) William Joplin (19-12 MMA) def. Joe Wilk (0-2 Bellator, 0-1 Strikeforce) by TKO (1).
HFC 36 (Michigan City, IN, USA) Adam Ward (0-1 WSOF) def. Vladimir Cerbadji (4-2 MMA MMA) by DQ (1).
John Troyer (1-2 Bellator) def. Marcus Govan (5-2 MMA) by SUB (1). Tim Cho (1-0 Bellator) def. Mike Delavega (3-2 MMA) by SUB (2).
NEF 32 (Lewiston, ME, USA) Bruce Boyington (2-1 WSOF) def. Taylor Trahan (7-9 MMA) by SUB (3).
Shamrock FC 302 (Kansas City, MO, USA) Bobby Voelker (0-4 UFC, 4-1 Strikeforce) def. Bobby Emmons (5-8 MMA) by TKO (1). Voelker was released by the UFC in 2014 and has since gone 4-1 competing in Missouri under the Shamrock FC banner.
CES 48 (Lincoln, RI, USA) Greg Rebello (0-1 DWTNCS, 1-1 Bellator, TUF 11*) captured the promotion’s heavyweight belt with a 23-second knockout over 100+ fight veteran, Travis Wiuff (0-2 UFC, 0-1 Pride, 4-2 Bellator). Prospect Tim Caron (2-1 Bellator) emphatically knocked out opponent Timothy Woods (7-5 MMA) with a slam. MMA Today’s Nolan King caught up with Caron during fight week.
KOTC: Fight to the Finish (Lincoln City, OR, USA) MMA Journeyman Tony Lopez (0-1 Bellator) put away Fabiano Scherner (0-2 UFC) with a third-round TKO.
Kunlun Fight 69 (Guiyang, China) Zhang Lipeng (27-10-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) def. Italo Goncalves (2-1 MMA) by TKO (1). Lipeng is an eye-popping 18-1 since his release from the UFC in 2015.
Pancrase 293 (Tokyo, Japan) Japanese MMA pioneer Akihiro Gono (1-2 UFC, 6-3 Pride, 0-1 Bellator, 0-1 WSOF) nabbed a split-call over Kyohei Wakimoto (2-1 MMA). Former Strikeforce title-challenger Takayo Hashi (0-1 Strikeforce) grabbed a second-round submission over Barbara Ancioly (4-2 MMA). Ricardo Tirloni (3-4 Bellator) dropped a unanimous-decision to Akira Okada (12-5 MMA). Lastly, TUF Brazil 4 lightweight winner Glaico Franca (1-2 UFC) won his fifth-straight welterweight fight since his UFC release when he defeated Hiroyuki Tetsuka (4-2 MMA) by decision (split).
February 8-11, 2018:
Island Fights 46 (Pensacola, FL, USA) One of the more controversial figures in the sport, Charles “Felony” Bennett (2-3 Pride, 1-0 EliteXC) lost his seventh-straight bout dropping a split-decision to Brok Weaver (11-4 MMA). The man formerly known as “Crazy Horse” is 4-9 since his 2015 release from prison.
SCL 65 (Denver, CO, USA) Melvin Guillard’s (12-9 (1 NC) UFC, 1-3 Bellator, 1-2 WSOF, TUF 2) struggles continued. The former ranked lightweight suffered his seventh-straight loss, getting knocked out in the second-round by Maurice Jackson (7-2 MMA) in a middleweight fight. Guillard has been knocked out in his last three.

UCMMA 54 (London, England) Johnny Walker (11-3 MMA) def. Stuart Austin (1-1 Bellator) by TKO (1). Cameron Else (1-0 Bellator) def. Jordan Ramshaw (0-0 MMA) by KO (1).
*Denotes fighter did not make it past the entry elimination round on their respective season of TUF.
