‘Boom’ Goes on the Road to Face Stasiak in Poland

A pair of bantamweights coming off losses are the latest addition to the UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdańsk, Poland.  Poland’s own Damian Stasiak (10-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) will likely have the crowd behind him as he welcomes New York’s Brian Kelleher (17-8 MMA, 1-1 UFC) to his home country.  The news was broken by MMA.pl here. The fight card is set to take place at the Ergo Arena on October 21 and will be aired exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.

After two impressive submission victories over Felip Pejic and Davey Grant, Stasiak stumbled in his most recent UFC outing losing a unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 109 in Stockholm, Sweden this past May to ranked bantamweight Pedro Munhoz.  In ten professional wins, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt has seven submissions to his record.  Stasiak, 27, will also have the height and reach advantage against Kelleher.

Despite earning a highlight-reel spinning back-fist knockout at Ring Of Combat 53 in front of UFC President Dana White, the world’s top mixed martial arts promotion elected not to offer Kelleher a contract in November of 2015.  A dominant victory over fellow prospect Julio Arce in March of 2016 earned the 25-fight veteran the call to face the ranked Iuri Alcantara in his home country of Brazil at UFC 212  in June.  Despite being a three-to-one underdog, “Boom” snatched up a guillotine choke earning the tap at 1:48 of round one and earning a Performance of The Night bonus in the process. Unfortunately for Kelleher, his quick turnaround resulted in a submission loss at UFC on Fox 25 to Marlon “Chito” Vera in Long Island in July. Despite the loss, he continues to maintain a massive social media following, referring to his fans as “Boomerangs”.

With this addition, the UFC Fight Night 118 card now includes:
Jan Blachowicz vs. Devin Clark
Andre Fili vs. Artem Lobov
Ramazan Emeev vs. Trevor Smith
Dmitry Smolkyakov vs. Adam Wieczorek
Jonathan Wilson vs. Oskar Piechota
Damian Stasiak vs. Brian Kelleher
