CES 54 to feature Tony Gravely vs. Kris Moutinho, Eric Spicely & more

Saturday, January 19, New England’s top MMA promotion CES MMA returns to its home base at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island for CES 54. Deviating from the norm in 2017, the card will not air on AXS TV.

The CES Bantamweight Championship will be up for grabs as returning champion Tony Gravely (16-5) looks to defend his title for the very first time against top New England prospect Kris Moutinho (7-2), CES officials confirmed to MMA Today on Monday morning.

In the main event CES 53, Gravely ran through popular New Englander and United States States Army veteran Kody Nordby in swift fashion.

That same night, the 26-year-old Milford, Massachusetts native Moutinho defeated James Quigg via a dominant three-round decision.

After batting .500 in 2017, Moutinho went on a tear in 2018, winning three straight fights. He’ll surely look to carry his momentum into his first bout of 2019 against Gravely.

Also on the card, UFC veteran Eric Spicely (10-4) returns to the CES cage for the first time since 2015. Struggling to get fights post-UFC, Spicely has found a willing opponent in LFA veteran Stephen Regman (9-3).

A veteran of The Ultimate Fighter Season 23, Spicely had a rollercoaster tenure in the UFC. After losing to Sam Alvey in his UFC debut, Spicely defeated Thiago Santos and Alessio Di Chirico via submission. His two-fight winning streak was followed by a three-fight losing streak, including a knockout loss to Darren Stewart that triggered his subsequent UFC release.

A former competitor in the 155-pound division, New Jersey’s Regman has found a home at 185 pounds. After kicking off his career at 5-3, the knockout artist has won his last four fights in devastating fashion.

In his most recent outing at LFA 49, Regman flattened former CES MMA champion and Contender Series veteran Wil Santiago in the first round. Regman will be looking to continue his in-cage devastation when he takes on the BJJ blackbelt Spicely.

CES officials tell MMA Today a main event is expected to be announced in the coming days, as well as the remainder of the main card and prelims.

Stay tuned for all of the latest news, announcements, and updates regarding CES 54!
