EFC 70: Amanda Lino Earns a Second EFC Belt in One of the Promotion’s Best Fights Ever

Durban, South Africa – EFC Worldwide’s newfound commitment to women’s MMA produced a spectacular bantamweight championship fight in the EFC 70 main event and an impressive future title challenger in the co-main. Read on for recaps of the two major womens bantamweight attractions that topped the card, plus highlights from the best of the EFC Worldwide 70 undercard!

EFC 70 Main Event – 135 Title:

W: Amanda Lino (4-1, #98 World)
TKO3-Ground and Pound
L: Rizlen Zouak (3-1, #49 World)

This five round title bout for the vacant 135 pound belt turned into a roller coaster Fight of the Night that doubled as one of the best bouts in recent EFC history, male or female. For the first two rounds of the scheduled five, Olympic judoka Rizlen Zouak tossed reigning EFC flyweight champ Amanda Lino around the cage via head-and-arm toss nearly every every time the pair got within distance. The script was always the same for Zouak when she hit the mat: advance position, usually to scarfhold armbar position or mount, and then hunt for an armbar. Those submission efforts were often close and occasionally extremely painful looking, but Lino showed excellent jiu-jitsu defense and immense composure throughout this bout. When “The Lioness of the Atlas” finally started to tire in round 3, Lino was ready to enact payback for the first two rounds. “Mad Dog” rode the French fighter to the mat and smashed away from back control until the referee was forced to intervene! Amazing comeback from Amanda Lino, who faced the pressure of a fierce judoka and found a way to use her jiu-jitsu skills and superior cardio to score a decisive victory. The 27 year old Lino now holds two EFC belts at 125 and 135 – with continued progression in her game there’s no clear ceiling for this warrior in the world ranks.

EFC 70 Co-Main Event at W135:

W: Bunmi Ojewole (5-2; 2-1 “official”)
Sub-Mata Leon, Round 1
L: Jaqualine Trosee (2-4)

Former EFC flyweight title challenger “Demolition Jackie” Trosee came to bang, but it was a bad idea for her to stand straight in front of Nigerian BJJ specialist Bunmi Ojewole in this 135 pound title eliminator. Ojewole easily attached to her target and muscled Trosee to the ground. From there it was jiu-jitsu 101, as Ojewole worked to the back and tapped Trosee early in round 1. Ojewole may carry an official pro record of 2-1 based on the frankly dumb “reality TV tourney fights don’t count” criterion, but she also earned three wins in four fights on South Africa’s version of TUF. Could a matchup with newly crowned 135 pound champ Amanda Lino be up next?
