EXCLUSIVE: Domingo Pilarte vs. Vince Morales Slated for Contender Series
The fight announcements for the second season of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series are continuing to pile up.
MMA Today has learned that top bantamweight prospects Domingo Pilarte (7-1) and Vince Morales (7-1) are slated to square off on the July 17th installment (episode 5).
The two 135 pounders have identical records and are finishers through and through. Domingo has finished five of his seven victories inside the distance (three submissions, two knockouts). Conversely, Morales has never gone to the judges scorecard in his pro career (two submissions, five knockouts).
Houston’s Pilarte has not fought in over a year. “The Son of Fire” most recently competed at LFA 7 back in March of 2017, defeating Adrian Yanez via split decision. The 28-year-old will look to take his win streak to five when he takes on Oregon’s Morales.
A cousin of UFC fighter Ricky Simón, Morales is one of the nation’s most highly-touted bantamweight prospects. In his last bout, Morales ran through Brandon Hempleman, stopping the WSOF veteran via second round stoppage. The 27-year-old was to compete at Front Street Fights in early May, but a last-second opponent pull-out scrapped the bout entirely.
The two exciting bantamweights are one impressive win away from a UFC contract. Sitting cage-side will be UFC President Dana White and UFC matchmakers Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard. Just like in the inaugural season, the top performers each night will walk away with a UFC contract.
