EXCLUSIVE: Dominick Reyes To Square Off Against Jeremy Kimball at UFC 218 in Detroit
For the past couple of years, the UFC’s light heavyweight division has been continually looking for new stars to come knocking on the door. Following a viral head kick knockout against Jordan Powell at LFA 13, Dominick Reyes (7-0) entered the UFC with a head full of steam, bowling over Joachim Christensen in just 29 seconds. At just 27-years old, “The Devastator” is most certainly a prospect to watch at 205lbs. With his UFC debut only taking a handful of seconds, Reyes walked away relatively unscathed, leaving the questions of who and where he would be fighting next. Today, MMA Today has learned the answers to both of those questions.
Multiple sources have confirmed with MMA Today that Reyes will square off against another light heavyweight up-and-comer, Jeremy “Grizzly” Kimball (15-6) at UFC 218 in Detroit. After dropping his UFC debut to Marcos Rogerio de Lima, Kimball is now coming off of a highlight reel knockout victory over Josh Stansbury at UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City this past June. The finish over “The Sandman” was quite an unusual one. In rare fashion, Kimball hit Stansbury with a standing hammerfist, which has since been deemed “the Donkey Kong punch”, knocking out the UFC veteran inside the first few minutes of the bout. Both Reyes and Kimball are ready to bring their heavy hands and fan-friendly style to the UFC octagon this December.
UFC 218 takes place December 2nd at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. It will be the first of two UFC pay-per-views in December. No main event has been announced for the card at this time, but highly anticipated lightweight matchup between top contenders Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje has been reported to be in the works (per Chris Taylor of BJPenn.com). Other matchups announced at the moment include Felice Herrig vs. Cortney Casey and Angela Magana vs. Amanda Cooper.
