EXCLUSIVE: Eryk Anders vs. John Phillips in the Works for UFC Fresno
Coming into his UFC debut this past July, there was a lot of buzz surrounding former NCAA Division 1 Football Champion Eryk Anders. Not only was Anders thought to be a unique story, but a gifted talent in the sport of MMA as well. The former University of Alabama starting linebacker had torn it up for the biggest regional promotions in the United States including Valor Fights, LFA and Bellator MMA, and was finally ready to make the jump to the UFC. Anders proved all of his backers correct at UFC on FOX: Long Island when he ran through long time UFC veteran Rafael Natal in short fashion, knocking out the formerly ranked middleweight under three minutes.
Now ready to step into the UFC octagon once again, a source close to the situation tells MMA Today that Anders now has a date and opponent for his sophomore UFC outing. According to the source, Anders will take on Team SBG product John “The White Mike Tyson” Phillips (21-6), who will be making his highly anticipated UFC debut.
Wales’s Phillips, who trains under John Kavanagh at SBG Ireland, was slated to make his UFC debut back in January of this year against Marcos Rogerio de Lima at UFC on FOX: Denver, but suffered an injury in training that resulted in his removal from the card. Usually competing in the light heavyweight division, Phillips will be moving down to 185lbs in this bout against “Ya Boy” Eryk Anders.
UFC Fight Night: Fresno takes place Saturday December 9th at the SaveMart Center in Fresno, California. The card will air live and free on Fox Sports 1. There has been no main event announced at this time. Stay tuned to MMA Today for all of the latest updates, announcements and news regarding UFC Fight Night: Fresno and all things MMA!
