EXCLUSIVE: Jeremy Kennedy Suffers Back Injury; Out of UFC Sydney

Top Canadian prospect Jeremy Kennedy suffered a back injury forcing him out of his bout against Alex Volkanovski at UFC Fight Night: Sydney.

UFC Fight Night: Sydney has taken it’s first blow this past week.  A source close to the situation tells MMA Today that top UFC featherweight prospect Jeremy Kennedy (11-0) was forced to pull out of the event due to a nagging back injury.  The undefeated 25-year-old has been dealing with a bulging disc for quite some time now, and with the problem getting worse and worse, decided it would be best to remove himself from the bout as to not risk further damage.

Kennedy has won eleven straight bouts in his professional career and was going to face a real step up in competition in Alex Volkanovski (15-1).  The UFC is actively searching for a replacement to step in and fight Volkanovksi, but no replacement has been chosen just yet.  Stay tuned to MMA Today for any updates on the situation.

UFC Fight Night: Sydney takes place Saturday November 18th from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney Australia.  The card will air live on Fox Sports 1 and is currently headlined by former UFC heavyweight title contender Mark Hunt as he takes on Polish phenom Marcin Tybura.
