EXCLUSIVE: Joby Sanchez to make UFC return against Roberto Sanchez at UFC Austin
Joby Sanchez (11-2, 1-2 UFC) is slated to finally make his return to the UFC, sources tell MMA Today. Despite a 1-2 promotional record, Sanchez was released from the promotion back in early 2016. After winning his first two fights outside of the promotion, Sanchez was invited to partake in “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” earlier this year. Following his victory over Manny Vasquez on week one of the UFC Fight Pass original series, Sanchez was invited back for a second shot at earning a UFC contract. On week seven, Sanchez defeated South African phenom JP Buys in dominant fashion, scoring a TKO in the second round.
On Sunday, February 18th, at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, Joby Sanchez will return to the UFC octagon to take on a fellow up-and-comer with the same last name. Standing across the cage from Joby Sanchez, will be former LFA Flyweight Champion Roberto Sanchez (7-1, 0-1 UFC). Roberto Sanchez made his UFC debut earlier this year, losing via first round knockout to Team Alpha Male‘s Joseph Morales at UFC Fight Night: Mexico City.
