EXCLUSIVE: John Makdessi vs. Abel Trujillo in the Works for UFC Winnipeg
The UFC‘s return to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada just got one fight deeper. Sources close to the situation tell MMA Today that exciting lightweight veterans John Makdessi (14-6, 7-6 UFC) and Abel Trujillo (15-7, 6-3 1NC) at UFC on FOX: Winnipeg on December 16th. The two were originally scheduled to face off way back at UFC 186 in early 2015, but an injury to Trujillo caused him to have to pull out of the bout.
It will almost be a full calendar year since Makdessi last competed. In his last outing, the 32-year-old Canadian was brutally finished by Lando Vannata via spinning wheel kick at UFC 206 in Toronto. Losing three out his last four bouts, Makdessi will definitely be looking to get back in the win column in his native country. For this upcoming camp, Makdessi will be working with Duke Roufus at Roufusport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin alongside the likes of Anthony and Sergio Pettis.
His opponent, Combat Club product Abel Trujillo, had his three fight win streak snapped in February when he was submitted by fellow UFC lightweight James Vick in Houston. Prior to that bout, Trujillo had defeated Jordan Rinaldi, Tony Sims and Gleison Tibau. Trujillo was scheduled to fight Lando Vannata this past weekend at UFC 216 in Las Vegas, but an injury forced him out of the bout. Now healed up, Trujillo will look to win his sixth bout in his last eight UFC appearances.
