EXCLUSIVE: Krzysztof Jotko vs. Adam Yandiev Set for UFC Moscow
On Thursday morning, the UFC officially named the UFC Moscow main event. In a fight previously reported by ESPN‘s Ariel Helwani, heavyweight contenders Mark Hunt and Alexey Oleynik will square off. Hunt vs. Oleynik isn’t the only fight the promotion has set for the inaugural UFC show in Russia.
MMA Today has confirmed with multiple sources close to the situation that Krzysztof Jotko (19-4, 6-4 UFC) and UFC newcomer Adam Yandiev (9-0, 0-0 UFC) are set to collide on September 22nd in Moscow.
After winning six out of his first seven UFC bouts, Poland’s Jotko has gone on a bit of a skid. The 28-year-old American Top Team member has lost his last three bouts including two knock out losses over his last two in-cage appearances.
His losses haven’t come to shabby competition, however. Brad Tavares, Uriah Hall, and David Branch are responsible for Jotko’s competitive woes as of late.
His opponent, the son of one of richest men in Ingushetia, Yandiev is undefeated through nine professional fights. The former M-1 fighter hasn’t competed in over three years. A close friend to future UFC Hall of Famer Vitor Belfort, Yandiev took to Instagram Friday to thank Belfort for helping secure the opportunity for him.
From 2016-2017, Yandiev’s name hit the international news circuit twice for reasons extending outside of the mixed martial arts world. In 2016, his mechanic accidentally crashed Yandiev’s Lamborghini into his garage, killing himself and one other. In 2017, Yandiev was shot when he publicly flirted with his wife on Instagram.
