EXCLUSIVE: Te Edwards vs. Austin Tweedy Slated for Contender Series (6/26)

Sources tell MMA Today two lightweight finishers will square off with UFC contract implications on the line.

Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series continues to take shape, this week.  MMA Today has learned that two of top American prospects are expected to square off on the June 26th episode.  The MMA LAB‘s Te Edwards (5-1) will take on midwest submission-specialist Austin Tweedy (10-1) in a lightweight clash.

A veteran of the United States Army and United States Air Force, Edwards started out his career as a member of the ASU wrestling team.  Entering the world of MMA, it didn’t take the Virginia Beach native much time to prove he is more than a grappler.  Edwards has won all five of his professional victories via first round knockout.  He’ll look to make it six against Indiana’s Tweedy.

Despite being only 27 years of age, Tweedy has accumulated an impressive record of 10-1.  There isn’t much tape of Tweedy online, but looking over his record, one thing sticks out.  Tweedy has won all but one of his victories by way of submission.

The pair of lightweight finishers are one impressive win away from a UFC contract.  Sitting cage-side will be UFC President Dana White and UFC matchmakers Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard.  Just like on the inaugural season, the top performers each night will walk away with a UFC contract.
