FNG 86: Fabio Maldonado vs. Nikita Krylov Set For Title Fight in Sao Paulo

A light heavyweight showdown between two former UFC veterans looms as current Fight Nights Global light heavyweight champion Fabio Maldonado puts his belt on the line against the Don of Donbass, Nikita Krylov. The two will lock horns at FNG 86, which will serve as the Russian promotion’s inaugural event in South America.

FNG has planned a rapid and aggressive expansion for 2018, with shows lined up in Brazil, Armenia, Ireland, Saudi Arabia and the U.S., along with their busy Russian schedule. FNG 86 is scheduled for April 14, hosted in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Nikita Krylov (23-5) comes into the title challenge on the strength of two wins and seven of his last eight. The former UFC standout racked up a 6-3 record with the American promotion, spanning both heavyweight and light heavyweight. Krylov most recently defeated former Bellator champion Emanuel Newton to earn his shot against Maldonado.

Fabio Maldonado (24-11) had an inconsistent career in the UFC but would always entertain. Going 2-2 in FNG, his track record has stayed the same, although this time one of his wins culminated in him winning FNG’s light heavyweight championship. Maldonado certainly has the veteran advantage of having fought names such as ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Stipe Miocic and Fedor Emelianenko, but Krylov will be looking to wrestle that belt from around Maldonado’s waist and put his own name in the mix with those legends of the sport.

MMA Today has also learned of another light heavyweight bout which will take place on the card involving a well regarded UFC and Bellator veteran, which we can hopefully announce soon. Fans should also expect another new signing to appear on the card, after this week’s signing of Nova Uniao prospect, Felipe Froes. Along with previously signed Brazilians such as ‘BigfootSilva, Rousimar Palhares and Diego Brandao.

Stay tuned for more news regarding this event.
