FNG In Talks For Kharitonov vs. Minakov, Also Eyeing Emelianenko Battle
In a recent interview on MatchTV.ru, Fight Nights Global president, Kamil Gadzhiev, revealed the promotion had been in talks for a potential fight between Sergei Kharitonov and former Bellator heavyweight champion Vitaly Minakov.
There was talk of Kharitonov potentially fighting for FNG sometime in the spring of 2018, although Gadzhiev appears to have now cooled on the idea, indicating that Kharitonov (26-6) may be looking at other options.
“I’m not entirely sure about the prospect of a fight Vitali Minakov – Sergei Kharitonov. This time the battle is being discussed, but I have a feeling that Kharitonov has other plans.”
One potential fight Gadzhiev is interested in exploring is a battle between Vitaly Minakov (21-0) and the brother of Fedor, Alexander Emelianenko.
Emelianenko was recently released from prison after a sexual assault and kidnapping conviction in 2015. He was set to serve 4.5 years for the crimes but was released early for “good behaviour.”
After returning to action Emelianenko (25-7) has since signed with alleged genocidal warlord Ramzan Kadyrov‘s MMA promotion, WFCA. Emelianenko has racked up a 2-0 record since returning to action.
Gadzhiev has previously expressed interest in signing Emelianenko and it once again looks like he’s giving serious thought to it again, although as he explains, Emelianenko’s WFCA contract could be a stumbling block.
“As for Alexander Emelyanenko, at the moment, Sasha really returned. But, one must understand what plans he has and only realizing this, one can seriously think about the battle of Minakova with Emelianenko. And you can not ignore the fact that Alexander is bound by a contract with another promotion.”
