Henry Cejudo Claims He’s Getting Interim Title Shot and Demetrious Johnson “Overplayed his Hand”

Cejudo claims he has interim shot waiting if Joseph Benavidez wins his UFC 225 fight vs Sergio Pettis

Henry Cejudo (12-2-0) is a top contender in the Flyweight division which has been dominated by Demetrious Johnson since the division was born. Cejudo was defeated by Johnson at UFC 197 via first round KO.

The Los Angeles, California fighter went to twitter to show his frustration with the lack of activity from “Mighty Mouse” since Johnson retained his belt at UFC 216. Cejudo mocked DJ for his supposed lacking ability to sell his PPVs. “The Messenger” stated that the previous rumors of putting a Johnson title fight on the July UFC 226 were true but that the champion wanted know part of the event.

The wrestling specialist then tweeted at MMA reporter Ariel Helwani, stating that if Joseph Benavidez won his upcoming fight the two would be paired together for an Interim Championship Fight. Benavidez (25-4-0) is set to take on Sergio Pettis at UFC 225. Cejudo and Benavidez were opposing coaches on the Ultimate Fighter and fought to a decision in 2016, Benavidez won the three-round fight.

The Champ’s response?

Both Cejudo and Benavidez have had the chance to take down “Mighty Mouse” but both have failed in the process. Benavidez has lost to Demetrious Johnson on two occasions, once by split decision, the latter by first round KO. Cejudo and Benavidez will continue their hunger for the belt if these claims are true, it looks as though one of them could yet again be next in line. Cejudo is riding a two-fight win streak, while Benavidez looks to get his 7th win in a row at UFC 225.
