After Knockout Goes Viral, Dominick Reyes Gets UFC Call
Not long ago Dominick Reyes (6-0, 0-0 UFC) was relatively unknown to MMA fans. Fast forward seven days later and his name is already on the brink of going down in internet infamy. His highlight reel knockout of Jordan Powell at LFA 13 last Friday evening swept the web this weekend, was featured on every sports media outlet you could imagine, and even made its way onto SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays. The knockout seems to not only have given Reyes the opportunity to become an internet star, but a UFC star as well.
On Thursday afternoon, the UFC announced that they had signed Reyes to a UFC contract and that he will be making his debut on less than three weeks’ notice at UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City. Reyes will replace newly signed Azamat Murzakanov who was dropped out of his contest with UFC light heavyweight Joachim Christensen (14-5, 1-2 UFC).
Reyes currently is undefeated in his brief but impressive professional MMA career, which dates back to late 2014. Reyes has five first round submissions to his name and is only 27 years of age, which makes him a combatant that fight fans should keep their eyes on. Denmark’s Christensen is coming off of a first round submission loss to Gadzhimurad Antigulov at UFC Fight 211 last month.
UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City takes place Sunday, June 25th from the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and is headlined by newly crowned lightweight rivals Michael “Maverick” Chiesa and Kevin Lee.
