Marion Reneau vs. Sara McMann Slated for UFC Orlando

After an injury to Tonya Evinger forced a reshuffle at women’s bantamweight, Marion Reneau (8-3-1, 4-2-1 UFC) will now face Sara McMann (11-4, 5-4 UFC) at UFC Orlando. The booking was first reported by MMA Junkie on Wednesday. UFC on FOX 28 takes place February 28, at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

Reneau approaches the bout in fine form having won two and drawn one in her past three fights. Most recently the 40-year-old stopped Talita Bernardo late in the third round at UFC Fight Night 115 in September last year. Prior to that Reneau came from behind to earn a draw with former title challenger Bethe Correia in Fortaleza, Brazil. Currently sitting at #10 in the UFC women’s bantamweight rankings, a win over McMann in February would be the biggest of Reneau’s career thus far.

McMann had originally announced on social media that she would be facing Invicta FC bantamweight champion Yana Kunitskaya at the Orlando event. Now, the bout with Reneau represents an opportunity to regain the momentum she lost back in September when she was submitted by Ketlen Vieira. Prior to that McMann racked up three straight wins against Jessica Eye, Alexis Davis and Gina Mazany to move close to title contention. The Olympic silver medallist is currently ranked #8 by the UFC.

There is no word as yet regarding where the bantamweight bout will feature on the UFC on FOX 28 card. The UFC have stated that the main event is still to be announced, however the list of bouts currently confirmed by the promotion are detailed below.

– Gilbert Burns vs. Olivier Aubin-Mercier
– Ben Saunders vs. Alan Jouban
– Jessica Andrade vs. Tecia Torres
– Yoel Romero vs. David Branch
– Mike Perry vs. Max Griffin
– Renan Barao vs. Brian Kelleher
