Nicco Montaño vs. Valentina Shevchenko Flyweight Title Fight Official for UFC 228 in Dallas, Texas
The UFC women’s flyweight title is set to be defended for the first time in Dallas, Texas. The UFC has officially booked current champion Nicco Montaño vs. Valentina Shevchenko in a headlining fight at UFC 228 on September 8th.
Montaño won the inaugural women’s 125-pound belt at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale in December after defeating Roxanne Modaferri via unanimous decision. Even as a low seeded underdog she went 3-0 on TUF defeating Lauren Murphy, Montana De La Rosa, and Barb Honchak on her path to earning the title shot at the Finale.
Shevchenko made a statement flyweight debut as she dismantled Priscila Cachoeira en route to a second-round rear-naked choke at UFC Belem after losing a close and controversial split decision to Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes last year at UFC 215. “The Bullet” went 3-2 at 135lbs with both losses coming to Nunes.
The event is scheduled for the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Per ESPN, the promotion is still working on finalizing a main event for the card.
