Paul Felder vs. James Vick Rescheduled for UFC 233
The UFC recently announced that some high octane lightweight action will take place at UFC 233 in Anaheim, California. A previously canceled matchup between Paul “The Irish Dragon” Felder (15-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) and James “The Texicutioner” Vick (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) will now be featured on the card.
The two were scheduled to face each other in a July showdown this year. Instead, an injury to Al Iaquinta left human highlight reel, Justin Gaethje, without an opponent in the main event of UFC Fight Night 135.
In his place stepped James Vick, but “The Texicutioner” would ultimately come up short to the former WSOF champion. Vick was on the receiving end of a brutal first-round knockout.
Prior to the Gaethje fight, Vick was on a four-fight winning streak with wins over the likes of Marco Polo Reyes, Francisco Trinaldo, and Joe Duffy.
Vick’s loss to Gaethje marks his second career loss, and he has never lost two straight fights in his career.
Now, Vick will look to bounce back against Paul Felder.
Felder, 33, has recently expanded his role as a UFC commentator, last appearing during the pay-per-view event UFC 230. But while Felder has been active on the microphone, he has been less so as a fighter.
At UFC 226, Felder competed against controversial brawler Mike Perry on short notice. Felder moved up to welterweight for the contest but dropped a split-decision in what was deemed one of the best fights of the year. During the fight, Felder broke his arm, an injury that prevented him from training for some time.
The loss to Perry snapped a three-fight winning streak of Felder’s that had showcased his patented ‘hellbows’, most notably in knockout wins over Stevie Ray and Charles Oliveira.
Both Felder and Vick are aiming to right their respective ships in this UFC 233 matchup.
The UFC 233 event, as it currently stands, features:
- Ben Askren vs. Robbie Lawler
- Islam Makhachev vs. Francisco Trinaldo
- Paul Felder vs. James Vick
