PFL 6: Best Bets and Breakdown
Professional Fighters League is back with another action-packed Thursday night of fights at PFL 6. In our featured bout, we have Ray Cooper III who is coming off a huge upset and thrashing of Jake Shields, taking on Pavel Kusch who also is coming off a major upset of Abubakar Nurmagomedov. Just like every other fight night, I am here to bring to you my best bets on tonight’s card. Right now we are standing at a perfect 8-0 record on our plays and I am looking to keep the ball rolling here tonight. Now let’s get down to business!
Jake Shield -115
We start off our night with Jake Shields as a slight -115 underdog against Herman Terrado. Shields is coming off arguably one of his worst losses in his career in a thumping against Ray Cooper III. Shields sitting at 0-1 in the tournament is in dire need of a finish here against Terrado and I believe he’s going to get it. Terrado is the much smaller of two fighters giving up 3″ of height and reach to Shields. Terrado is going to have to fight at a distance to be successful in this fight because once Shields gets inside hes going to be looking to get a hold of Terrado any way that he can. Once Shields does get inside and successfully takes Terrado down it should be rather easy for him to take advantage and get the finish. Terrado was finished in his last fight by getting dragged to the ground and getting choked out via rear naked choke and I see this fight being played out the same exact way. Shields gets the 1st round submission and keeping his hopes alive for the PFL playoffs.
Bojan Velickovic -115
This fight between Bojan Velickovic and Magomed Magomedkerimov is going to be a close contested fight throughout. Even in this close contested fight, I believe Velickovic will be victorious doing what he does best and that’s out point his opponent with great movement and footwork to a decision victory. Velickovic is absolutely huge for the Welterweight division, standing at 6’2″ he is most likely the biggest Welterweight on the PFL roster. When Velickovic fought Darren Till he even made Till look small and that is quite hard to do. Velickovic is battle tested and has fought much better opposition than Magomedkerimov just like the aforementioned opponent I just spoke about above Darren Till and the surging Jake Matthews to name a couple. Magomedkerimov is going to look to take this fight to the mat any way that he can as that is where he is at his best. Though taking Velickovic to the mat is no easy task at hand as he has defended the takedowns very well throughout his career. He has also faced much better wrestlers than Magomedkerimov like Jake Matthews. I predict Velickovic to be able to keep his distance and use his height and reach advantage to outpoint Magomedkerimov to a decision victory.
John Howard +150
This is my value play on the night. John Howard is much better than the odds are suggesting in this one. He does have a tough opponent on his hands in UFC veteran and MMA Masters product Bruno Santos. Howard really impressed me in his PFL debut against Gasan Umalatov. Against Umalatov he absolutely mauled him both on the feet and on the mat to the point where he eventually finished him by rear naked choke in round 2. Howard I believe has much stiffer competition in this one against Santos who has an outstanding professional record of 17-2 with his only two losses by quality UFC opponents Elias Theodorou and Krzysztof Jotko both by decisions. Howard is a very powerful wrestler that looks to get throw heavy shots to get inside and take his opponents to the mat. Once he gets his opponent to the mat he is able to use strength, heavy top game and powerful ground and pound to soften up his opponents and either get the TKO or get the rear naked choke when they give up their back. This is going to be a tough fight for Howard but I believe his game for it and he is going to show that he is a force to be reckoned with in this tournament, Howard by TKO round 2.
