Praying to the MMA Gods: Keep UFC 223 Championship Fights Intact

I find myself thinking something similar to, “I pray to the MMA Gods”, a lot as of late. There are times where I’m actually on my knees, hands folded, praying to these MMA Gods. Are they real or are they fake? We will never know. But one who is spiritual like I am can only have faith. I believe, and I hope you do as well.

This will be a weekly column detailing my prayers to the MMA Gods!

Keeping Both UFC 223 Championship Fights Intact

In under a month, one of the UFC’s biggest Pay-Per-Views in recent history will take place. On April 7, 2018 from Brooklyn, New York UFC 223 will go down. As of right now, all fights are a go and haven’t been messed with due to injury or any other medical conditions. I pray to the MMA Gods that UFC 223 stays the way it is now.

On this card are two championship fights. Headlining is the much anticipated UFC Lightweight Championship bout between Interim Champion Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Ferguson and Nurmagomedov were scheduled to fight three times prior to UFC 223 but fell through because of the following reasons: a rib injury to Nurmagomedov at the TUF 22 Finale, a lung issue with Ferguson at UFC on Fox 19 and weight-cutting issues to Nurmagomedov at UFC 209. This fight has been on the radar of MMA fans for years. Finally, given the MMA Gods truly love us, we will see a fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The second championship fight for UFC 223 is a re-match between two of the best female fighters in the world. Women’s Strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will throw down if the MMA Gods love us. Their first fight at UFC 217 was an absolute shocker. Jedrzejczyk was so dominant that no one saw the beatdown Namajunas gave her coming. What Joanna Violence will we see? Will it be the one that was beat down by Namajunas or will it be the dominant pound-for-pound best we’re used to seeing?

Both championship fights are sure to be exciting. Rose Namajunas and Joanna Jedrzejczyk thrrew down last November and it was a superb showing by Namajunas. Now we get a second fight between the two athletes. And in the main event, we will finally get Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov. FINALLY! That’s only if the MMA Gods hear our prayers.

Please MMA Gods – hear our prayers and keep all four of the UFC 223 championship fighters; Tony Ferguson, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Rose Namajunas, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, healthy and safe leading up to their fights on April 7, 2018.
