Report: Johny Hendricks to Face Paulo Borrachinha at UFC 217
It seems that we have another addition to the UFC 217 card at Madison Square Garden on November 4th. Johny Hendricks (18-7) will be returning to action to face Brazilian Paulo Borrachinha (10-0) as reported by globo.com. This card is shaping up very well, with Michael Bisping vs Georges St. Pierre fighting for the Middleweight championship expected as the main fight on the card and Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Rose Namajunas targeted for the Strawweight title as well.
Hendricks coming off of a loss to Tim Boetsch at UFC Fight Night 112 is looking to redeem himself. Having a bad weight cut and missing weight by 3 lbs, Hendricks will want to prove to himself and the UFC that he can make weight at Middleweight again. Other than his weight issues he has only had one other bout at Middleweight, in which he faced Hector Lombard and won by unanimous decision. He has a lot to prove in this division even with such a long career at Welterweight and being a former champion at 170lbs.
Paulo Borrachinha is an overly aggressive fighter who debuted in the UFC two fights ago at UFC Fight Night 106. In his last bout, he fought Oluwale Bamgbose in which he beat within two rounds at UFC 212 in his home country of Brazil. Bamgbose is the only fighter to have taken Borrachinha past the first round in his professional career. All of his previous fights have ended mostly by knockout with one submission and a doctor’s stoppage being the exceptions.
This should be a very interesting fight in the Middleweight division. A veteran looking to stake his claim in the division and a fresh addition to the division who doesn’t spend much time in the octagon with his opponent.
