Rumor: ACB targeting Giovanni Melillo vs Husein Kushagov for Italian card

The athlete from Bari returns to the cage for the first show on the Italian soil by Russian promotion Absolute Championship Berkut

Some matches rumored for the April 21st card that ACB is organizing for the first time in Italy have started to leak out.

Sources have told MMA-Today that the Russian promotion is trying to book a fight between the current Magnum FC welterweight champion, Giovanni Melillo (11-2 MMA, 0-0 ACB), and a Russian fighter from ACB’s roster: Husein Kushagov (7-4 MMA, 7-4 ACB). The two were already schedule to face off at a previous ACB event, but the match was called off.

Melillo has scored 5 wins in his last 6 fights, one of which in Cage Warriors, while the last one earned him the welterweight title of Italian promotion Magnum FC. The title fight should have been against one of the hottest names on the Italian scene, Carlo Pedersoli Jr, another fighter that seems to be eligible for a spot on the ACB 85 card.

The rumor has been reported on Russian portal VK.com too.

Translation: Official. Local star Giovanni Melillo (11-2, 170 lbs) will compete on the Italian card. According to our sources he will face Husein Kushagov.

It is worth noting, however, that at the present state of things there is almost a halo of mystery surrounding the ACB Italian card. Less than a month away, no match has been officially announced, and the location of the event has not been announced either.

The first rumors, in fact, pointed to the Italian capital of Rome as a possible destination for the promoters of Eastern Europe, while the latest rumors heard by MMA-Today are mentioning Verona as the city destined to host one of the biggest European promotions.
