Sean O’ Malley looks to break José Alberto Quiñónez’ 4 fight win streak as they will meet at UFC 229
It was officially announced on ESPN’s The Helwani Show that “Suga” Sean O’ Malley (10-0) will be facing José Alberto “El Teco” Quiñónez (8-2) on what could be the biggest card of the year for UFC 229.
There was some early speculation that O’Malley’s opponent could have possibly been bantamweight Alejandro “Turbo” Perez instead but, due to an injury, the UFC picked up the phone and called his cousin.
While Quinonez cruises his way through the 135-pound division, an impressive four-fight win streak suits him well. With notable bouts against Diego “Pitbull” Rivas and most recently a three-round unanimous decision win at UFC 221 against Teruto “Yashabo” Ishihara, this is just part of what leads the 28-year-old inside the octagon the night of October 6th.
As for O’ Malley, the Contender Series contract winner still remains undefeated after his rather painful win against Andre “The Asian Sensation” Soukhamthath at UFC 222 which was rewarded fight of the night honors.
Since early March, foot surgery had to be done which forced the 23-year-old to stop training until it was fully healed to do so. Ever since then the “Suga Show” has been more ready than ever with a new contract signed and even predicts he will get his first UFC finish against Quinonez.
“Honestly I would be surprised if I don’t finish him. I would be very upset with myself and kinda disappointed if I don’t go out there and finish this kid.” – O’ Malley said on ESPN’s The Helwani Show
