Sources: UFC Fight Night 116 Targeted for September 16th in Pittsburgh

9/16 UFC Fight Night finally appears to have a home!

Yesterday, news broke that Anthony Hamilton vs. Daniel Spitz and Justin Ledet vs. Dimitry Sosnovskiy were being targeted for a UFC Fight Night event with a location (in the United States) that had yet to be announced. The location of this event was in question, as there has been a bit of a schedule shuffle due to the cancellation of the potential UFC 215 event in Seattle in August. Many fighters who were planning on fighting on the Seattle card have been moved to events such as this one and the new UFC 215 card in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

MMA Today has learned that the UFC may have finally found a home for this September 16th card, as they are targeting it to be held in “The Steel City,” Pittsburgh, PA. This will mark the UFC’s third show held in Pittsburgh in the promotion’s history. The last time that the UFC was in “The Burgh” was back in February of 2016 when they held a fight night headlined by Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira. The card also featured future UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt, who defeated then UFC newcomer Augusto Mendes by first round TKO.

While the promotion has made no official announcement yet, MMA Today has learned that numerous fighters and camps have been told that they will be fighting in Pittsburgh. It is unknown at this time which venue will be used, but the PPG Paints Arena is thought to be the frontrunner, as it has held both of the UFC’s prior UFC events.

Stay tuned to MMA Today for any news, updates and announcements pertaining to this recently announced card!
