Mexico’s own Alejandro Perez took on former CES MMA Bantamweight Champion Andre Soukhamthath in the opening fight of the UFC Mexico City main card. Both men looked to get back to their winning ways after failing to defeat common opponent Albert Morales in their prior bout.  Each man entered his contest with Morales on a TKO streak, but Soukhamthath lost on points while Perez managed to eke out a draw.

Perez’s TKOs came inside the Octagon against Scott Jorgensen and Ian Entwistle, whilst ‘The Asian Sensation’ defeated Kin Moy, Kody Nordby and Carlos Galindo, all by way of Knockout in AXS TV regional promotion CES.

Early in the 1st, both men came out quick footed throwing some light leg kicks. Perez threw a head kick later in the round and landed a nice combo. Midway through the round Soukhamthath dropped Perez with a strong jab, though Perez jumped back to his feet. For the second time in the round Soukhamthath dropped his opponent with another powerful jab, closing out round 1.

In round 2 the action started slow until both men started to get in range with heavy shots. Soukhamthath dropped Perez with a  jab once again, really highlighting how powerful that left hand is. Perez fought back with a flurry of blows and dropped Soukhamthath with a solid overhand right. Perez jumped on top briefly before “The Asian Sensation” walkwalked up the fence back to his feet. Perez landed a  well-timed spinning back elbow and more dangerous shots to close the round out strong and possibly steal it on the scorecards.

Coming into the 3rd Perez went straight for the take down but Soukhamthath defended well, showing great athleticism. Perez mixed it up with a stylish spinning back fist. In the final 2 minutes of the bout, Perez landed a very important takedown but Soukhamthath stood up with ease. Perez continued to chop at the legs to slow his opponent down. And with that… we go to our judges decision…..

Winner via Split Decision: Alejandro Perez (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
