Welcome to the UFC: Khalid Murtazaliev

With the UFC coming to Moscow, Russia on September 15th of this year. The UFC has signed a few talented Russia fighters for the event. A bout was scheduled in the middleweight division was set between CB Dollaway and Omari Akhmedov but unfortunately, Akhmedov has to pull out. Dollaway was then set to fight Artem Frolov but again an injury would occur and Frolov would pull out due to injury. With that said, UFC would m sign M1 Russian Khalid Murtazaliev to step in and save the bout.

How will Khalid Murtazaliev fare in the UFC:

On the feet, Murtazaliev holds a lot of power and explosiveness as his kickboxing would be his best weapon on the feet as the quick release and power are awesome and he really favors the left kick to the body. At times Murtazaliev lands some powerful overhands and a quick jab but the problem is that he doesn’t hardly throw enough at all. The Russian is a good wrestler though as he is very explosive on his entrances and is physically strong tearing his opponents down. On top is where Murtazaliev wants to be with top notch control and mauling ground and pound. The way he can get into dominant positions like the mount and even more so the crucifix and unload constant short punches plays a big factor in his style. Out of 11 finishes by TKO, 10 of them are on the mat via ground and pound. With the pace he unloads on the mat his ground and pound is alright but on the feet he gets significantly slower and drops his hands lower. There are many legit Russians on the UFC roster but Murtazaliev isn’t gonna be one of those guys as he does have good top position but his wrestling isn’t on a high level, his takedown defense needs work, his cardio is an issue, and overall on the feet, he has a lot of wholes.

How does he match up with CB Dollaway:

Dollaway still poses a threat on the feet and more so the mat but at this stage in his career he is 35 and has a lot of fight miles. In Dollaway’s 19 UFC fights he has only been taken down four times and has completed 37 takedowns of his own which could play a big factor in this fight. I think Dollaway is actually better on the feet but his chin could very well not hold up if Murtazaliev lands flush. This is a close fight I wouldn’t bet on.
